Obituary of R. Christopher Felix
R. Christopher "Cat" Felix passed away peacefully on Monday, March 27,2017.
Chris was born in Chester, PA, on February 25, 1970 to Robert H. Felixand Sharyn C. Felix (vanDeusen). He was married June 23, 1995 to the love of his life, Kim.
Chris was a graduate of Clearview High School where he was involved inthe marching band and baseball, as well as, being named Prom King. He moved south in 1988 to attend Catawba College in North Carolinapursuing his passion to play college baseball, and his dream of becoming an Athletic Trainer. Following graduation, he attended Temple University as a graduate assistant. Chris dreamed big and obtained what very few have done; after sending out hundreds of resumes, he became the head athletic trainer with the High Desert Mavericks Minor League Baseball Team in California. The following year, the NY Rangers organization granted him the head athletic training position in Binghamton, NY for the Rangers Ice Hockey Team. Always wanting to return home, Chris was hired by the Philadelphia Flyers and kept the athletes of Philadelphia Phantoms healthy for 10 years while continuing to form strong bonds and friendships throughout the organization, thehockey world, and beyond. There, he was part of the 1998 Calder Cup Championship Team and accomplished a dream of "getting a ring". He fondly became known as "Cat" or "El Gato" by all that knew him, and fully embraced the affectionate moniker. He worked as the trainer for the USA Roller Hockey Team several summers while traveling abroad.
Chris left the athletic training world to put his strong personality to usein medical sales with Globus Medical. After building many strong friendships with his doctors and OR staff, Chris decided to branch out with his business partner and form Atlantic Surgical. Chris was a member of several organizations, such as the, NATA and PHATs. As a tribute to all his hard work and accomplishments he was inducted intothe Athletic Trainers Hall of Fame at Catawba College. Chris was actively involved in his children's sports as a member and coach of the Audubon Little League Baseball, Hollydell Hurricanes Ice Hockey, Little Flyers Ice Hockey, Oaklyn Cougars and St. Pete's Football. Chris enjoyed watching his son Colin play hockey for Team Comcast, St. George's Prep School, and currently the Janesville Jets. His son Colby brought him joywhile watching him play football, basketball, and baseball at home and at now St. George's Prep School.
Chris was a resident of Audubon, NJ prior to moving to Ocean City, NJ last year as he and Kim achieved their dream of many years to live at the beach. He thoroughly enjoyed "holding court" while telling stories, jokes, andmaking all who had the honor of being in his presence laugh continuously. His favorite times were spent holding hands with the loveof his life, Kim, while they sat on the beach in OC as the boys surfed and played wiffle ball with their friends. Just being around his family and friends, over a meal, going on a cruise, concerts, or traveling to watchColin and Colby play for their respective teams were occurrences he reveled in. Chris would regularly grab the mic on any stage to get the party going with his entertainment skills that would have all laughing.
"Cat", was one to immediately see a need and meet it; reach out to anyone who needed support or some encouraging words. He was always concerned about how others were doing and offered a helping hand in any way he could. As one close friend perfectly stated. "We are all better off for knowing Cat".
One of his more recent passions, was obtaining and restoring a 1962 Triumph with his father, who previously owned a similar model. They enjoyed working on it and attending car shows together.
