Obituary of Jerry A. Dunn
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Lt. Jerry "Poppy" Dunn, a greatly admired and loved family man and a decorated Vietnam veteran, who passed away on September 7, 2024. Born March 20, 1940 in Tacoma, Washington. Jerry, affectionately known as Poppy, led a life marked by service to his country, devotion to his family, and an enduring love for life's simple pleasures.
Lt. Jerry Dunn is survived by his wife of 62 years, Janet Dunn. Their children, Stacy Hofbauer (Michael Hofbauer) and Scott Dunn. He is the beloved grandfather to Jesse Dunn, Ashley Dunn, Serena Yousef (Michael Yousef), Brett Hofbauer (Nicole Hofbauer) and Darian Dunn. He also leaves to cherish his memory, his great-grandchildren, Jesse Senter Jr., Phoenix Senter and Michela Joseph , all of whom will miss his steady presence and heartfelt advice.
Jerry's dedication and work ethic were evident early in life, culminating in his joining the US Navy in 1957. His illustrious career was marked by numerous commendations, leading up to his retirement as a Lieutenant in August 1980. Despite the demands of his career, he found time to marry his beloved wife, Janet, in 1962, creating a family that would become his pride and joy.
Described as family-focused, respected, and an all-around good person, Jerry enjoyed coin collecting, playing Xbox, reading, and, most of all, spending time with his family. His favorite advice was "Play your role. Do what you have to do then you can do what you want to do", a testament to his discipline and pragmatism.
In the wake of his passing, Jerry leaves behind the example of the kind of person we should all aspire to be, both in our personal and professional lives. As the steadfast anchor of his family, his absence will be deeply felt, but his influence will remain a guiding force. We invite those who knew and loved Jerry to remember his teachings, honor his service, and aspire to the standard of character he set. As we navigate forward without him, we are reminded that he may have departed, but he is never too far from us. He will continue to steer us in the right direction, just as he did in life.
Until we meet again, anchors away!
