Obituary of JoAnn Metcalf

Please share a memory of JoAnn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Our loving mother, JoAnn (Jody) Metcalf of Willingboro, NJ, died peacefully in her home on July 2, 2024. She was 91 years old. She was born in Beech Glen, NC on November 30, 1932 to Claude and Pansy Arrowood. She attended Blanton’s Business College in Asheville, NC.  After she married she moved from North Carolina to Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York and finally settled in her treasured home in Willingboro, New Jersey.

She was a loving mother and grandmother to her five children and four grandchildren. She was a true friend and like a second mother to many. She was a Cub Scout leader and was devoted to her church. She loved her flower garden and was an avid crafter.  She volunteered for many years with Church Women United and Deborah Heart and Lung Hospital. After her children had grown she worked in sales and was a familiar face at the jewelry counter in Boscovs at the Moorestown Mall for many years, retiring in her late eighties.

She is survived by her sister and husband Wanda and Jim Montgomery; her children Debra, Patricia and Gregory; her son-in-laws Tim, David and Tom; her grandchildren Amy, Timmy, Benjamin and Dylan; her sisters in law Betty O’Brien and Naomi Metcalf, and a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; infant daughter Karen, daughter Barbara, son Kenny; her Arrowood siblings, Beatrice, Martha, Donald, Lucille and Frances, in-laws Kathy Hughes, Betty Arrowood, Hal and Jack Metcalf, Ed Jones, Rod MacRae, Earl Davis and her former husband James Farol Metcalf.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the wonderful nurses and home-health aides of Bayada Hospice. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date and she will be interred with her parents in her beloved Blue Ridge mountains.
