Obituary of Margaret Ann Loftus
Margaret Ann Loftus, nee Chatary, passed away suddenly on February 13, 2024. She was 81 years old. She was
born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Michael and Elizabeth Chatary on May 1, 1942.
She grew up and lived in Philadelphia with her parents and five siblings, until marrying John
Loftus on February 27, 1962, upon which she began her journey as a military wife.
Together, with their children, they were stationed at many different places throughout the
country and in Germany. Margaret was an amazing mother and proud military wife who made
raising three children while John was deployed look easy. No matter how difficult this may have
been at times, Margaret made it very well known that she wouldn’t have done anything
differently. She was extremely proud of her husband and children for enduring this lifestyle.
After 23 years as a military wife, she and her family settled down in Edgewater Park, NJ in 1983,
where she and John resided for the rest of their lives.
Margaret had many interests, including camping with her family and friends, traveling the
country, numerous military support organizations, selling Avon for more than 50 years, as well
as spending quality time with her family. She made many loving friends along her journey.
Margaret was also an amazing grandmother, taking any and every opportunity to spend time
with all of her grandchildren.
Margaret is predeceased by her husband: John (2018), a son: Thomas Michael (1965), and
two siblings: Michael Chatary and JoAnn Flynn. She is survived by her three children: John J.
Loftus (Linda Lamb), Cathryne Smith (Gregory Smith), and Barbara Primiani (Anthony
Primiani), her five grandchildren: Kayleigh Smith (Fiancée-Blair Kokotajlo), Noah Primiani
(Katherine Primiani), Nicholas Smith, Zachary Primiani (Teresa Primiani), and Peter Primiani
