Obituary of Gertrude T. Rohde

Please share a memory of Gertrude to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Gertrude T. Rohde, of Willingboro, NJ, passed away on Thursday March 23, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.

Gertrude was born on May 14, 1931 in St. Joachimstahl, Czechoslovakia.  She is predeceased by her loving husband of 51 years, Allyn.  She is survived by her two daughters, Elizabeth T. Komosinski (Rohde) and Heidi K. Cabibbo (Rohde), and her three grandchildren, Jenna E. Komosinski, Isabella E. Cabibbo and Antonio C. Cabibbo and nieces and nephews.

Gertrude is also survived by her loving family in Germany - brother Bruno Hellmich (Silvia) and sister Brunhilda Dietz (Harold) and nieces and nephews.

Gertrude’s life had many challenges starting when her and her family escaped into Germany during World War II.  Her strength and bravery continued later in life when she met Allyn in Germany and left her homeland to get married and start her life in the United States.  She was a dedicated army wife for 27 years and played the role of both Mom and Dad while Allyn was deployed to various locations overseas.  She embraced that role with dignity and constant support.

Gertrude loved to spend time with her family and friends and was an amazing Omi/Oma.  She enjoyed gardening, entertaining and trips to Atlantic City! She also made frequent trips to Germany to visit the family and friends that were very special to her.

Gertrude was grateful and blessed for her many friends, you couldn’t come over to her house without her offering you a meal or a glass of her homemade iced tea. She was a great listener and was always focused on making sure everyone else was ok.  Her humor and wit were unmatched - there were many times she brought everyone around her to tears with laughter.

There was truly no one like her and she will be greatly missed by all.  We all loved her and she will be forever in our hearts.
