John Henry Legette, Jr. was born December 31, 1944, to the late John Henry Legette and Marsenia Davis in Marion, South Carolina. It was also there he received his education in the Marion County Public School System.

John, affectionately known by his family and friends as Preach, Preacher, Pop, Pop Pop, Slim and Legette departed this life on August 18, 2022, at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden, NJ.

During the mid-60's, John relocated to Paterson, NJ. He worked as a machinist at Drakes Bakery for over 40 years. He retired from there in 2011.

In his spare time, John loved to grow his garden with tomatoes, peppers, collard greens, etc. He always kept his cars clean. Wide brimmed hats and cowboy boots were his trademark. He was no stranger to the casino and loved going to the store to purchase scratch offs.

John touched the lives of so many and had a unique way of making you smile or laugh. When asked by his family and friends what he was doing, he would say "just chewing the fat".

He was a member of social club in Paterson, NJ known as The Magnificent Seven who met weekly on Graham Avenue.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Legette and Marcenia Davis Lambert.

John leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Florence Legette; two sons, Christopher (Erica) Legette and Craig Legette both of Orlando Florida; two stepdaughters, Chiquita Matthews of Paterson, NJ and Melinda McDuffie (Darryl) of Las Vegas, NV; three stepsons, Robert H. Shearn III, Craig Shearn and Bryan Shearn all from NJ; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, three sisters and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 26, 2022, 10am at the Goes – Scolieri Funeral Home, 212 Levitt Parkway, Willingboro, NJ, 08046. (609)871-1000. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing, Friday morning, 9am – 10am at the funeral home. Interment : Odd Fellows Cemetery, Burlington,NJ.
