Please share a memory of Abe to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

ABE HENDERSON, JR., the first of five siblings, was born to the late Abe and Lyda Henderson on April 19, 1948 in Maybinton, South Carolina.  He entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at his home in Willingboro, New Jersey.

He received his high school education from Gallman High School in Newberry, South Carolina. Abe would continue his passion and study of history for many years to come. After graduation, Abe migrated to Englewood, New Jersey where he met and married his beloved wife, Melody (Toon) Henderson and shared a matrimonial partnership for forty-five years.

Abe held simultaneous employment positions both on the Englewood Hospital staff and also with the General Motors Corporation for nine years before completing an additional thirty-three years and retirement from the General Motors Corporation in 2010.  He received numerous awards and citations over the years to his credit.  Anyone who knew Abe, knows that he was a lover of all sports but an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.  He even managed a tryout with the New York Mets.

His career was interrupted early on by a call to arms from the U.S. Army where he served as a combat infantry artillery expert and was assigned to and completed a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1968 and ended his military service with an honorable discharge.

Prior to and after his retirement, Abe and Melody enjoyed extensive travel to the U. S. National Parks, Museums, and Monuments.  They cherished an extended visit to the Holy City of Jerusalem.  Being the history buff that Abe was, he enjoyed reading and studying history at his leisure.

Left to cherish Abe’s love and memory are his wife, Melody; Godson, Robb Davis; Siblings: Susie (Jay) Jordan, Upper Marlboro, MD; Ellie (Wilbur) Wigglesworth, Ellicott City, MD; Larry(Marilyn) Henderson, Ellicott City, MD and Sally Henderson, Catonsville, MD– three nephews, Larry, Jr., Michael, and (Lil) Abe; two Nieces, Kimberly and Staci; and ten Great Nieces and Nephews; surviving Uncles and Aunts, Charlie Gibson, Gwendolyn Stewart, Verona Gibson, Fred and Karin Gibson, Bobby Dawkins, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
