Obituary of Melvin E. Lowder

Melvin Eugene Lowder, 84, of Willingboro, NJ, passed away on November 23, 2020. Born in China Grove, NC, to Willie Lee and Bertha Maebelle (Morton) Lowder, Melvin was one of nine children and raised in a Christian family. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his siblings as a child.

At age 18, Melvin joined the military and served as a Specialist in the U.S. Armed Forces and Reserves for 8 years. He received the Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged in May 1963. His last post was in Fort Dix, NJ and his two children, Barry and Gaye, soon followed.

Melvin was an expert electrician and a hard worker. He spent his spare time making home improvements and crafting his trade. He and his wife, Zorina, were married in 1990. They enjoyed visiting Niagara Falls and family in North Carolina. Melvin also enjoyed Western movies and had a sweet tooth, especially for ice cream. He loved his dogs, Chippee and Cookee. He donated often to feed starving children in poor countries. He kept each of their pictures in a photo album throughout his life.

Melvin is survived by his wife Zorina Lowder (Toulon), son Barry (Susan), daughter Gaye Melody Amie (Donald), great grandson Jaxon; brother Jerry Donree (Johnnie aka Sue). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his grandson, Justin Lowder, his parents, his brothers Jessie, Alfred, Willie, Lonnie and Claude, and sisters Helen and Christine.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the frontline doctors and nurses at Virtua Hospital in Willingboro, NJ for the care they provided. Melvin will be laid to rest at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Burlington, NJ.
