Betty A. Shinn of Gloucester City, passed away December 27,2018 , at her daughter's home. She was 72. Betty was born on September 2, 1946 in Philadelphia, PA , to Richard Dougherty and Jane Bickley both of whom, along with many other family, friends and fur babies, were there to greet Betty as she left this world and took her place in heaven. Betty gave birth to daughter Dawn, with the first of the two Georges in her life in 1968 and daughter Tammy in 1970 with the second George who Betty married in 1970. She became a grandmother in 2003 with the birth of Tammy's son Joshua and again in 2009 when Tammy brought daughter Lyndsey into this world. Betty's artistic talents resulted in a career that first started in newspaper, The Delaware State News. Betty and George eventually realized their dream of owning their own business when they started their advertising business, G&B Composition in Felton, Delaware. The business survived the introduction of desktop computers by adding mailing services and continued until George's death in 2004, after which, Betty worked as a seamstress for a short time at ILC in Frederica, Delaware. In addition to her work, Betty enjoyed country music, cooking, keeping an immaculate home, games of Scrabble and visits to the casino. She also doted on the many fur babies that passed through her life over the years including Misty, Ginny and lastly, Sophie. Betty suffered a couple of major strokes in 2015, after which, she moved to Gloucester City to live with her daughter Tammy and her family. Tammy and her family selflessly took care of Betty, keeping her safe, comfortable and wrapped in love until it was time for Betty to join George and all the other family, friends and fur babies in heaven. As daughter Tammy put it, she's in heaven dancing with Dad; enjoying her Father's homemade spaghetti sauce and meatballs and Mom Mom's Christmas cookies. Betty is survived by daughter Tammy and her family Joshua, Lyndsey and Jamie; daughter Dawn and her husband Dave; sisters Jane Harvey and Patty Dougherty; as well as a host of sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews; other family and friends, including her dear friend Kathy Main. No services will be held, Betty will join George in their final resting place at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, Delaware at a later date.
