Ivan D. “Andy” Anderson, 93, of Willingboro, New Jersey passed away peacefully on March 29th,2024.

Ivan D. “Andy” Anderson was born in Brockway, Pennsylvania to Carl R. and Margaret (nee:Moore) Anderson on April 11th,1930. At age 20, Andy enlisted in the United States Air Force on October 26th,1950. Andy prided himself and accrued an incredible 9800 hours of flight time on multiple aircraft, where he served as an aircraft mechanic and flight engineer. His travels in the Air Force took him around the world 7 times with stops including the North Pole, Greenland, and St. John’s, Newfoundland; where he met and married his late wife, Maria of 44+ years. Andy was stationed in Greenville, SC, Savannah, GA, and McGuire AFB before obtaining the rank of Master Sergeant. He retired from the USAF in November of 1970 after serving 20 years with an Honorable Discharge. His notable achievements included the Air Force Longevity Service Award, an Outstanding Unit Award, and Good Conduct Medal; all with respective four oak leaf clusters. Andy continued with his love of aviation in the private sector, seeking employment with several private sector airlines based out of the Northeast Philadelphia Airport, for an additonal 24 years.

Opposite the open skies, Andy spent valuable time on the ground in the Boy Scouts of America, spending his youth as a Sea Scout prior to joining the military. Andy shared the experience of scouting, by teaching camping and outdoor skills to not only his children and grandchildren, but countless other scouts he mentored along the way. He was a trusted and respected Scoutmaster, eventually serving as Commissioner to the Garden State Council. Andy instilled a sense of pride and accomplishment in those he mentored, which earned him the Silver Beaver award for exceptional character and distinguished service.

Andy was a respected life member of VFW Post 3020, Riverside, New Jersey, and American Legion Post 146 where he gained countless friends and shared endless memories. Andy was the last surviving member of the Neighborhood Coffee Club, which they met every morning for over 50 years. Andy was always tinkering or fixing things, including one of his many hobbies, woodworking. He enjoyed watching his cowboy shows, western films and never missed his Philadelphia Flyers. He spent countless hours with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren retelling stories and sharing his knowledge.

Andy is survived by his children; Carl Anderson (Deborah), Dale Anderson (Beth), Margaret Atzert (John), Ronald Anderson (Patty Keating), James Anderson (Lisa), and John Anderson (Lisa); his 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
