Celebrating the Life of Barbara L. Pervall

Barbara – or Bobbie Lee as she was called by family and friends – was born inRichmond, VA on March 10, 1930. She was the fifth child born to Rev. Robert Lee Pervall and Lillian Randolph Pervall. Bobbie Lee's schooling was in the Richmond school system. Following her graduation from Armstrong High School, she joined the Army where she enjoyed traveling and gained job training and experience that benefited her throughout her life. Bobbie served during the time of the Korean War.

After her military career, Bobbie Lee lived and worked in Flint, MI where she enjoyed friendships and acquired her admiration of sports cars. It's interesting to note that while Bobbie owned several very sporty automobiles, she was not a speedster; she just liked making a sporty impression!

After her time in Michigan, Bobbie Lee moved back East and eventually settled in the Petersburg area. While there, she worked at the Virginia State University bookstore, retiring in 1993. She truly loved her role and interaction with the students, and students thoroughly enjoyed her and the occasional advice she bestowed. Upon retirement, Bobbie focused on being a homeowner and tending her lawn – and being close to family, especially to her sister, Mollie Godley. She was an active member of Union Branch Baptist Church and she volunteered at nursing homes, sharing her bright smile and laughter.

When her health concerns necessitated that she be closer to family, she became a resident at Granville Place in Burlington, NJ. There she became "Aunt Bobbie" to the staff members, who cared for her. Bobbie Lee was a loving, supportive and jovial Sister and Aunt. Her nieces and nephews all have fond memories to share and humorous stories to tell. Bobbie's faith was strong, and she would often break out into the chorus of "Ten Thousand Angels." We are comforted knowing that those angels were there to greet her when she was called home on November 13, 2023.
