Obituary of Charles J. Ott, Jr.

Charles J. Ott, Jr., age 92, of Willingboro, NJ passed away peacefully on August 22nd in his home surrounded by his family. Charlie was born in Philadelphia and graduated from Northeast High School. 

He honorably served his country in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict.  He was a truck driver for his entire post military career driving for Mason Dixon Trucking Lines. 

After his discharge from the Navy, Charlie came home to marry his high school sweetheart, Joan B. Bucher. They were married for 42 years before Joan predeceased him in 1992. In 1959, Charlie and Joan moved to Willingboro where they raised their six children.

He enjoyed taking his family camping, going to the beach, watching the Phillies, playing cards, ballroom dancing and visiting Atlantic City. He was a longtime member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Willingboro.

Charlie was a devoted son, husband, grandfather, and great grandfather.  He was preceded in death by his parents Charles J Ott, Sr. and Eva Ott (nee Kowal); his wife Joan Ott (nee Bucher), son-in-law Mark Burns and Herma Vierra his companion of 14 years.  He is survived by all his children: Geraldine Burns, Edward Ott, Charles (Buddy) Ott, III (Kerry), Theresa Ott (Richard Weidel), Monica Sankey (Steve) and Lawrence Ott (Sue).  He has 11 grandchildren: Courtney Keen, Russell Burns, William Burns, Charles J. Ott, IV (John), Samantha Sankey, Alexander Sankey, Kirsten Ott, Michael Ott, Matthew Ott, Erin Weidel and Anna Weidel and 6 great grandchildren: Kylie Keen, Quentin Keen, Liam Burns, Luke Burns, Anna Burns, Gracie Burns and his loving companion, Barbara Toohey, who was there to comfort him until the end.

Family and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Saturday, August 26th, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 11 S. Sunset Road, Willingboro, NJ 08046, followed by his Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Charlie’s name may be made to Corpus Christi Church at 63 Sylvan Lane, Willingboro, NJ 8046.
