Michael Somogy

Michael Somogy, 75, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026. Born on April 26, 1951, in Massillon, Ohio, Michael was the beloved son of the late Michael Somogy, Jr. and Betty Somogy (Jacobs). He was raised in Massillon before making his home in Burlington Township, New Jersey, where he built a life centered on family, service, and friendship.

Michael proudly served his country in both the United States Navy and as Captain in the Army National Guard. Following his military service, he dedicated his career to public service, retiring as a Lieutenant from the Jamesburg Juvenile Center. He also gave generously of his time to his community, serving as Treasurer of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge and remaining actively involved with the American Legion.

Above all, Michael was devoted to those he loved. He was the cherished father of Jennifer Somogy (Keith Milligan) and the proud grandfather “Pop” of Anthony and Joseph Proietti, who brought him endless joy. He shared a loving partnership with Joan Sperry, with whom he enjoyed traveling and creating lasting memories.

Michael is also survived by his brothers, Jerry "Smokey" Somogy (Donna Robinett) and Timothy A. Somogy (Carla Somogy); his nieces and nephews; along with many extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives were enriched by his kindness and humor.

A man of many interests, Michael had a lifelong passion for cars and could often be found attending local car shows. His love for music and playing the drums. He took great pride in maintaining his lawn, taking car rides and enjoyed traveling with Joan, and treasured every opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren. He was known for his warm heart, generous spirit, and the jokes that could always bring a smile to those around him.

Michael's legacy is one of service, laughter, love, and unwavering devotion to his family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
