Sarah, 86, was born in the Bronx, New York to the late Paul and Sarah Colon. She moved to Camden, New Jersey in 1950 and then to Edgewater Park, New Jersey in 1972.
Sarah graduated from the “Castle on the Hill” Camden High School, Class of 1957. She attended Our Lady of Fatima Church in Camden and as a young adult she served as the first Queen Simpatia for the church. She raised funds to purchase pews that still exist to this day.
Sarah was predeceased by her “Honito” William (Bill), her siblings Henry, Humbert and Edward (Pat) Colon, her beloved Titi Louise Ayala (Paul) and Uncle Paul Picon. She is survived by her Aunt Palmira Ayala and Uncle Armando Picon; siblings Judy Hopkins and Vincent Turchiano, Wanda, Paula and Erika Colon; Mother to Joseph Navarro (Luz), Lisa Navarro (Tony), and Step-Mother to Reneira Nieves; grandchildren Marissa Navarro, Alexis Gotay (Jose), Ajae Thompson, Johnny and Andy Rodriguez, Alex Cuebas-Mallet (Kevin), Edwin Manzano (Christina), Angelica Hudnall (Josh), Juan DeJesus, Isabella Noel; great-grandchildren Gabriel and Mateo Gotay, Bella Rodriguez, Penelope, Henry and Phillip Mallet, Genevieve and Javier Hudnall. And by her few dozen cherished nieces and nephews and their children whom she loved deeply.
Sarah retired from the NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development after 31 years of service and 5 years with the Puerto Rico Department of Labor Migration Division for a total of 36 proud years of dedicated Civil Servitude. She was a Certified Public Manager and the first Spanish voice ever heard on the automated voice response phone system.
Sarah loved the Lord, dancing, sports (Go Eagles!), music, cooking, reading, plants and to plan large family gatherings and social events. She was a woman of deep faith and served as a CCD Teacher for over 27 years. She especially believed in defending the rights of the unborn. She was present when Pope John Paul II came to Philadelphia. She would often recount how the “Burlington Ladies” included her in a select number of tickets and received a Papal blessing which was a highlight of her life.
Her greatest gift was the ability to love God, family, friends, neighbors and former co- workers. She especially was grateful for her special friends and neighbors and loved them deeply. She loved life and her motto was “love, love, love and never accept defeat”.
Liturg of Christian Burial will celebrated Thursday, Feburary 19,2026, 11am at the Parish of Jesus the Good Shepherd, St. Joseph Church, 805 Warren Street, Beverly, NJ, 08010. Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing, Wednesday, Feburary 18, 2026, 6pm - 8pm and Thursday Morning, 9:30am - 10:30am at the Goes - Scolieri Funeral Home, 212 Veteran Parkway, Willingboro,NJ.
