Stephan C. Neuenfeldt Obituary

Stephan “Steve” C. Neuenfeldt, 83, of Willingboro, NJ passed peacefully on May 30th ,2025, in Mt. Holly, NJ after a short illness, with loved ones by his side.

Stephan was born in Appleton, WI to Albert and Esther Neuenfeldt on February 6th, 1942. He was the second of 4 siblings who have remained very close throughout life. Steve’s education journey started at St. Therese Catholic school in Appleton which was followed by graduation from Appleton High School in 1960. Some of Steve’s favorite childhood memories included being the bat boy for the “ Appleton Papermakers” and working with his Uncle Arnie at his gas station / convenience store. He loved to sing, write music and play the guitar. Steve was a cowboy at heart who competed in multiple bareback horse and bull riding events at various rodeos.

After High School Steve decided to follow his heart, honor the Country that he loved and proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force. He faithfully served our Country from 1960 -1969. Steve rose to the rank of Staff Sargent and held the title of a Pararescue (PJ) Specialist, serving 2 tours and assisting in 100+ flights during the Vietnam War. Steve received 2 commendation medals for rescues over dangerous territory. He also worked with Dr. Lawrence Lamb , chief Cardiologist with NASA assisting with medical exams and EKGs on Pilots and Astronauts in a clinical study that paved the way for John Glenn’s historic orbital mission.

It was during his tenure at K. I. Sawyer Airforce Base that he met the love of his life, Eleanor Wiseman,1st Lieutenant, who was serving with the USAF Nurse Corp. Detailed witness accounts describe the two meeting as a true “love at 1st sight” encounter. They wed in 1965 and when their service concluded in 1969, they settled into a little suburb in south New Jersey to raise their family. Steve was a loving and devoted husband to his wife of 59 years, spending the last years of Eleanor’s life right by her side while she battled Dementia.

Following his service to his Country, Steve began his new career at 7 - eleven. What started as an entry level position quickly grew to that of a regional executive. His civilian career spanned 32 years before his retirement at the age of 59.

After their children had been raised and their careers completed Steve and Eleanor followed their dreams and hit the road in their new motorhome. Their trips routinely lasted for months at a time.

Their favorite travelling adventures included; visiting family and friends all over the country, taking fall foliage trips to New England, wintering in Florida, seeing 40+ national parks, and long trips through Alaska and Canada. During their time at home, they could be found with their family and grandchildren.

Steve was an incredible storyteller , often sharing tales with anyone and everyone that would listen. He was known to tell good LONG war stories and share favorite memories. He was most proud of donating his 1st pint of blood in 1969 for his daughter, Pamela, which led to donating over 80 pints of whole blood and becoming an Apheresis donor, giving his white blood cells, platelets and plasma over 380+ times. It was such a rewarding experience for him, knowing that he was helping leukemia and cancer patients. Other stories included his work with Catholic Charities, bragging about his children and Grandchildren, his time in the service or the time he wrote a story about corn baseball fields in Wisconsin that later got published. No matter how many times he told these stories, the passion and joy were always found in making those around him feel the experience. Yes, this obituary is long and detailed, but it had to be to hold true to the legacy of Stephan Neuenfeldt.
