Maurice Gunn, AKA Kareem, was born on April 19, 1965, to Thelma Gunn and the late Sammie Gunn.
On May 11, 2025, Maurice lost his battle with cancer at White House Nursing Home in Orange, NJ. He is predeceased by his father, Sammie Gunn, one sister Sandra Drayton, two brothers, Sammy Thompson and Dwayne Gunn, one niece Sakia Gunn, one nephew Joseph Clair, and one great-niece Symphony Amore Love.
Maurice was a lifelong resident of Irvington, where he attended elementary and public school. After completing high school, he proceeded to Job Corps in Cassadaga, NY. He was a dedicated worker at UPS, a handyman who worked will with a paintbrush, and was well known for his exceptional cleaning skills, often joking that he could clean a house so thoroughly that you could eat off the floor.
Maurice spent his childhood in a family-oriented environment, where the Gunn and Hall family reunions were always his favorites. He was well known to all the cousins, nieces, nephews, and neighbors as Mr. Karate until they grew older and realized he was no Bruce Lee. To make up for that, he would treat them to the movies, take them to the local pool, or enjoy fun in the sun at the park, which he called camping.
Maurice leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Thelma Gunn of Willingboro, NJ, one son Shareem Taylor of Englewood, New Jersey, one granddaughter Sade Taylor also of Englewood, New Jersey, four sisters Dorothy Clair of Lithonia, GA, Lena Lowe and brother in law Glenn Lowe of Liberty, Missouri, Loren and Latona Gunn of Willingboro, NJ, his lovely fiancé Angela Davis of Irvington, NJ; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends
Maurice was deeply loved and will be remembered by everyone who knew him.
