Obituary of Dr. Edwin W. Messey, MD

Dr. Edwin W. Messey, MD, a dedicated physician and cherished family man, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 27, 2025 at the age of 94. Born in Essington, PA, he devoted his life to the well-being of his patients and the love of his family.

Dr. Messey was the beloved husband of the late Lois Barbara Messey (née May), with whom he shared 64 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in March 2020. Together, they built a loving family and were active members of their community.

He is survived by his five children: Bobby (Lisa), Ricky, Michael, Joanne, Buddy, and Scott; five grandchildren: Kathleen, Sam, Jason, Jack, and Sydney; and two great-grandchildren, Gavin and Vanna. Dr. Messey was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, and their son, Jimmy.

Dr. Messey's medical career was marked by his commitment to patient care and community health. He was known for his compassionate approach and dedication to his patients' well-being.

Beyond his professional life, Dr. Messey was an active participant in community health initiatives. In 1969, he contributed to a program addressing the health impacts of tobacco use, reflecting his dedication to preventive medicine and public health.

He was a proud member of the Masons and a past president of the Willingboro/West Jersey Rotary Club of which he was a member for 62 years. He was a talented artist and loved to teach not only his medical students but fellow artists and anyone who wanted to learn.

Dr. Messey will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his patients, and his community. His legacy of compassion and service will continue to inspire all who knew him.

A memorial service to honor both Dr. Edwin and Lois Messey's lives will be held on March 4th at the  Goes-Scolieri Funeral Home in Willingboro, NJ. Visitation is at 10am followed promptly by a service at 11am.
